Return
Ends a shared workflow with the answer the flow that ran it gets back.
Return ends a shared workflow and answers the flow that ran it. The outputs you set are what that flow reads after its Run workflow step.
When to use it
- At the end of every path of a shared workflow that should answer, for example one Return for a client found and another for none found.
- A Return step belongs in an automation with a Called by another flow trigger. Anywhere else, the canvas warns Return Outside a Shared Workflow.

Outputs
Return has no outgoing handle: it ends the run. The workflow's outputs are every output named on any of its Return steps. When a flow ends at a Return step that leaves one of them out, the caller gets no value for it.
Tips and limits
- Not inside a Loop or a Parallel branch. A Return step ends the run, so it can't be one of the steps a Loop or Parallel repeats or splits.
- A shared workflow with no Return step answers with an empty output, and the canvas warns No Return Step.
